Albania’s Duka replaces Rubiales as UEFA VP, congress moved from Madrid to Paris

September 27 – UEFA have appointed Amand Duka of Albania to replace disgraced former Spanish FA (RFEF) boss Luis Rubiales as one of its six vice-presidents.

Rubiales resigned as head of the RFEF on September 10 in the wake of the Jenni Hermoso kissgate scandal – and in doing so forfeited his prestigious UEFA role.

He remains suspended by FIFA for 90 days during an investigation into his conduct at the medal ceremony of the Women’s World Cup and is also under criminal investigation in Spain.

The appointment of Duka, who has been a member of the UEFA executive committee since 2019, was made during its executive commitee meeting in Limassol, Cyprus.

To add insult to injury, the RFEF has been stripped of staging UEFA’s next annual congress.

Madrid was due to host the 55 member federations on February 8 as well as hold the group-stage draw for the next men’s Nations League competition.

UEFA said its executive committee decided to relocate both events to Paris on the same date.
