Israel to play crucial home Euro 2024 qualifiers in Hungary

November 1 – Israel will play their next two home Euro 2024 qualifiers in Hungary, UEFA has announced.

UEFA postponed all matches scheduled in the country earlier this month due to the Israel-Hamas conflict and FIFA announced last week the games would be played in November  but did not provide locations.

The Pancho Arena in Felcsut will host Israel’s Group I qualifier against Switzerland on November 15 and their November 18 match against Romania. Both matches will be played behind closed doors.

Israel, who have 11 points from six matches and sit third in their group, are also playing away at Kosovo on November 12. They have never qualified for a Euro finals tournament.

Hungary has been a regular replacement venue for UEFA-organised games since 2020 when the COVID-19 pandemic started and Israel already went there in June to face group rival Belarus, who are playing home games in Budapest.

The conflict with Hamas has left Israel two games behind schedule in a three-way race with Switzerland and Romania to advance as the top two in the Group I standings.
