May 8 – Bloomberg Sports is rolling out its advanced match analytics products for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The stats-based service for fans has been operating across Europe’s major leagues this season, primarily as a betting service allied with its match predictor tools.
This will be first time the Bloomberg analysis tools have been applied to a World Cup.
Bloomberg’s analysis comes from current and historical and data and provides predictive models on the winner, final and half-time scores.
“For the World Cup package we have created a model with predictive analytics covering player performance as well as team analytics,” said Bloomberg Sports CEO Bill Squadron. “We have used on-going player analysis using multiple data sources.”
“We don’t pick winners but we come up with the highest probable outcome, the most accurate probabilities.”
The World Cup product will be updated round by round throughout the tournament and uses most of the same metrics applied to Bloomberg’s European League products. Bloomberg is offering a package of pre- and post-game analysis products to its licensed media partners.
Bloomberg is also able to provide broadcasters with live analytics and has developed an API that can feed information in real time to the broadcaster.
This season the European League data has grown to the degree that the company is now producing a weekly TV show for the African and Middle East broadcast network of its parent broadcaster Bloomberg TV.
The show is hosted and driven by analytics and graphics with a focus on the African players in Europe. Squadron says the aim is to syndicate this show internationally, replacing the African focused section with more relevant content for local markets.
