May 15 – A new app, which has undergone field-testing at Burnley, Leyton Orient and Sheffield Wednesday, allows football fans to use their smartphones to order and pay for refreshments from the comfort of their seats, cutting down considerably on queuing times.
The new platform has been developed by Preoday, a UK-based cloud technology company which combines expertise in hospitality and catering with technological know-how.
To use the app and avoid the stress of queuing and worry about missing the start of the second half, fans can download the “my order app,” which is available for free for iPhone, Android and Windows 8 phones. They then fill in the code for the stadium and are presented with the menu, pay online and are then given a confirmation code on their phone which they show staff to collect their items from an express collection point.
Fans can order their refreshments before the match or up until half-time.
Co-founder of Preoday, Michael Thompson told INSIDEworldfootball that Hull City have signed up to use the system from the start of next season, so with Burnley’s promotion both sets of fans will be able to pre-order their food and drinks when the two clubs meet home and away next season.
According to Thompson, Preoday’s system is unique in that clubs and caterers have complete flexibility to set up their own App, update and manage events. The App is being marketed in France and Germany as well as the UK and will be available for fans at tomorrow’s Shamrock Rovers v Liverpool friendly.
A survey of Burnley fans who used the system shows they appreciate avoiding queues, only having to enter their card details on the system when they first use it, the loyalty rewards system which has been in place works with the app, and they like the guarantee of being able to eat the particular pie they want.
