Premier League attendances drop slightly pre Xmas, but West Ham fly high as Liverpool open up Anfield

December 14 – After two weeks that have completely shuffled the Premier League deck, fans have pulled back from going to matches as the latest capacity tracker findings suggest a 1% drop-off in the two most recent match days.

Game week 14 was well above average in overall capacity percentage, scoring a solid 98.273% across the ten matches played. The quality of support is amplified further by the amount of seats available – more than 25,000 more than game weeks 15 and 16.

The latter two match weeks were the two lowest attendance scorers of the year so far. Game week 15 was pushed down by mildly disappointing turnouts across the board, whilst game week 16 saw some positive displays weighed down by Sheffield United’s dismal 88.95% capacity showing – the worst of any team across the 160 games played so far this season.

The best scorers in the percentage capacity section were West Ham as the Hammers continue their reign at the top of the attendance table, yet again scoring over 99.9% capacity in the club’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace in match week 14.

The highest attendance of the period was at Old Trafford as 73,607 fans watched Manchester United’s victory over Chelsea. A similar number turned up for the Red Devil’s humbling 0-3 defeat to Bournemouth three days later, with a lot more seats left vacant by the final whistle.

Fulham and Sheffield United are becoming the lowest percentage capacity holders in the league, despite the latter’s 97% showing in match week 15.

Unai Emery’s Aston Villa were undoubtedly the stars of the two-week period, earning resounding victories over title contenders Manchester City, Arsenal which have pushed the villains into second place.

Matchweek 17 of the Premier League headlines with Liverpool v Manchester United at an Anfield that has been allowed to open a portion of its new stand, meaning we’ll see the largest Anfield crowd ever at around 57,000 for the match against the home team’s arch rivals.
