May 22- The International Centre for Sports Security, which earlier this month published the most comprehensive report to date into the scale of illegal betting, is expanding its global operations by opening a European head office and appointing former European Professional Football Leagues chief Emanuel Macedo de Medeiros as the new Chief Executive of ICSS Europe from early June.

With its growing portfolio of European partners in the field of sport safety, security and integrity, the Qatar-based organisation will strengthen its position and resources in Europe in the fight against corruption.

The European office will also be established as a focal point to address emerging trends which further threaten sport at global level, such as issues around third-party ownership, financial integrity, good governance in sport and protection of young athletes.

Mohammed Hanzab, ICSS President, said: “The ICSS is fast becoming a leading voice in the fight to protect and preserve the integrity and safety of sport. In order to continue to serve sport at a global level and to continue our work with Governments and International organisations, we need to ensure that we are well-positioned to maximise these partnerships and to have the resources and the added expertise to be at the forefront of issues affecting sport.”
