Real strike in boardroom as well as Jimenez moves up at ECA

Pedro Lopez Jimenez

May 27 – Real Madrid’s Champions League triumph over Atletico Madrid wasn’t their only success of the past few days against Spanish rivals. Off the field, the European Club Association have appointed Real vice-president Pedro Lopez Jimenez as its 2nd vice chairman.

Jimemez replaces former Barcelona president Sandro Rosell who resigned earlier this year after Spanish tax authorities launched an investigation into his signing of Brazil star Neymar and who was conspicuous by his absence at the ECA’s annual assembly.

Barcelona has regained its seat on UEFA’s influential Professional Football Strategy Council, however. The ECA have handed the role to Barca’s new president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

The UEFA panel includes representatives from clubs, leagues and players’ unions and Bartomeu also joins the 200-member ECA board.

Another of Rosell’s previous roles, head of the ECA marketing panel, has gone to Manchester United executive vice chairman Ed Woodward.
