The stadium opened its doors on December 18, 2020, Qatar’s National Day, with a spectacular debut that included the Amir Cup final.
It was one of two venues used for the 2020 FIFA Club World Cup.
Built mostly from recycled material from a previous stadium, it hosted the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 matches through to the quarter-final stage.
The site was originally that of the multi-purpose Al Rayyan Stadium used by both Al Rayyan Sports Club and Al-Kharitiyath SC.
