Asian Cup smashes attendance records with 11 games still to go

January 30 – With 11 games still to be played, the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 has broken the tournament’s historic attendance record of 1.04 million, hitting a new high mark of 1,068,587 during yesterday’s knockout stage match between Qatar and Palestine.

Jassim Al Jassim, CEO of the AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 Local Organising Committee (LOC), said: “Once again, Qatar has reaffirmed its place as a global sporting capital. Our modern infrastructure and operational experience has enabled us to deliver yet another accessible and culturally engaging tournament to the highest standards.”

The AFC has already announced that the 2023 finals have smashed digital engagement records, becoming one of the most trending topics amongst fans online.

During the group stage, the tournament’s social media accounts garnered 689 million impressions, 5 million engagements and 208 million video views.

“We’re delighted to be setting records this early in the tournament. With 11 matches still to go, the best is yet to come, with many teams showcasing exceptional performances,” said Al Jassim.
