February 12 – Following a string of disappointing results, RWD Molenbeek have dismissed their Brazilian manager Claudio Caçapa with Igor de Camargo stepping in on an interim basis.
The Brussels-based club have garnered just a single point in 2024 and following a 4-0 defeat to Antwerp at the weekend, the Molenbeek hierarchy decided to axe Caçapa. The club sit in the 14th spot in the league table and are in danger of dropping down.
In a statement, Molenbeek said: “We would like to thank Claudio and Anderson, who in recent weeks tried to find solutions to improve our results. We now have five games left to try to avoid the play-downs and we have decided that a change is needed now to bring a new vision and energy.”
“Igor will act as interim coach until a new T1 is appointed. He knows our league well, our club and has been working with our group of players since the start of the season.”
Last summer, the former defender succeeded Vincent Euvrard to become RWDM manager following stints as an assistant and interim manager at Olympique Lyon in France and Botafogo in Brazil, but on their return to the topflight for the first time in 21 years RWDM have proven to be too inconsistent. RWDM are a part of John Textor’s portfolio of clubs.
The club has five matches left to avoid the play-downs, including away fixtures to both Genk and Anderlecht.
