June 25 – The Bulgarian league has distributed its TV rights income for the 2013-14 season showing the disparity in domestic TV deals between the big leagues of Western Europe and those in its poorer East.
Ludogorets Razgrad was the biggest beneficiary after the club took its third consecutive title, receiving BGN 500,000 (€250,000). TV7, who hold the TV rights to the league, pay BGN 4.5 million (€2.25 million) per season.
The clubs approved the distribution of TV income on the same model as the previous season with 40% divided equally among the participating teams. 30% is allocated according to the classification in the first half of the season and 15% of the last tranche is divided by final league position at the end of the season. The last 15% is shared between six clubs who play matches under floodlights.
According to this distribution, each of the 14 teams in Group A participating last season received at least BGN 128 000 (€64 000).
The six clubs that play matches under lights – Ludogorets, CSKA, Levski, Beroe, Chernomorets and Lokomotiv Plovdiv receive BGN112 500 (€56 250) as compensation for the cost of the lighting infrastructure.
The second and third in the final standings of Group A – CSKA and Litex will receive BGN 480,000 (€240,000). Levski, who finished fifth, will receive BGN 420,000 (€210,000).
The club that receives the least TV money is Neftohimic Burgas – about BGN 160,000 (€80,000).
Clubs playing in the Cup of Bulgaria also receive a share of the BGN 400,000 (€200,000) TV income. The cup winner Ludogorets receives BGN 50,000 (€25,000) and the losing finalist, Botev Plovdiv, BGN 30,000 (€15,000).
