Kane limps back to England for friendlies

March 19 – England captain Harry Kane has linked up with the national squad despite sustaining an ankle injury during Bayern Munich’s recent match against Darmstadt.

The 30-year-old striker reported for international duty at St George’s Park on Tuesday, demonstrating his determination to participate in upcoming friendlies. England are scheduled to face Brazil at Wembley on Saturday, followed by a match against Belgium three days later on March 26.

Kane’s ankle trouble arose during Bayern’s 5-2 victory, where he was substituted late in the game after scoring a goal and later colliding with a goalpost. Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel revealed that Kane had twisted his ankle during the collision.

Although Kane suffered an injury to his left ankle, Bayern’s official statement confirmed that he would join the England squad for further assessment and treatment. The statement highlighted that Kane would receive medical care from the team doctors in coordination with FC Bayern’s medical department.

Tuchel told Bayern’s official website on Saturday: “[Kane] twisted his ankle in the goal netting. He’s been applying ice to it since. We don’t have any news yet. We’ll have to wait and see and hope that it’s nothing major.”

On Sunday morning, the Munich sporting director Christoph Freund was quoted by Bild as saying Kane “will be looked at in England. He has trusted doctors there. We are in close coordination on this. Harry won’t take any risks.”

Kane, who is England men’s team’s all-time highest scorer with 62 goals, has now also broken the record for most goals netted in a debut Bundesliga season.

He registered Bayern’s second goal just before half-time on Saturday, taking him to 31 for the campaign. Kane said on X: “Proud to break a Bundesliga record but more importantly another good win.”

He has been a vital asset for Bayern Munich since signing for €100 million in the summer, becoming a rare bright spot in an otherwise disappointing season for the Bavarian club as they look set to miss out on the league title for the first time in 11 years.
