Football’s social media club giants swing into Champions League overdrive

April 8 – The battle this week in the Champions League quarter finals will also see some of Europe’s biggest football club social media accounts swing into action.

Research by Football Benchmark shows that six out of the eight teams in the quarter-finals have more than 100 million followers across various platforms. Borussia Dortmund and Atlético de Madrid are the only clubs under the 100 million mark.

The two Spanish giants are way ahead of the rest and in a league of their own,.

Real Madrid have more than 400 million social media followers, while FC Barcelona are nearing the 400 million threshold with 381 million.

Barca’s numbers are more than double those of PSG and Man City, and 3.5 time those of Arsenal.

The numbers are taken from the clubs’ official Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok and Weibo accounts.
