April 15 – Everton have appealed against the two-point penalty imposed on the club in April for breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Earlier this season, the club successfully had a 10-point penalty reduced to six points for the same breaches relating to last season’s reporting period.
When the Premier League announced the most recent sanction, Everton said they were “extremely concerned by the inconsistency of different commissions in respect of points deductions applied”.
The Premier League had sought a five-point penalty, but the independent commission reduced this to two points because of mitigating circumstances as the club were being punished twice in the same overlapping period.
Premier League regulations stipulate that a club can lose no more than £105 million over a three-year period and the Toffees admitted exceeding the permitted losses by £16.6 million.
The appeal hearings must be concluded five days after the conclusion of the Premier League season, with the last round of matches taking place on May 19. Everton will be hoping to have clarity before the final Sunday of the season. They sit two points above the relegation zone and play Chelsea tonight.
