July 29 – The Tanzanian Football Federation (TFF) risks losing the 200,000 shilling (£70,000) national team bus it received last year after the bus was attached by the Tanzanian High Court for failure to satisfy a court decree for payment of a debt of 159 shillings (£56,500) to Punchlines Tanzania Limited.
The dispute is over the supply of tickets which Punchlines provided on credit between for tournaments including the CECAFA 2010 Cup and Vodafone Premier League.
Punchlines’ advocate filed for execution of the Court’s judgement after an earlier judgement went in their favour and the TFF failed to pay up.
The Court has officially appointed an auctioneer whilst additional damages and interest on the debt are being sought, despite the TFF having denied each and every claim advanced by Punchlines.
On handing the bus over in February last year, Tanzania Breweries Kilimanjaro beer brand manager had commented that: “When we took over sponsorship among the objectives was to raise the status of the team and one of the things we promised was purchasing a brand new bus.” So clearly the loss of the bus, which has been designed to ferry footballers and their equipment, would be a major setback.
