July 30 – The Disciplinary Committee of the French Professional League (LFP) last Thursday imposed sanctions on some of the 87 first and second division players who were caught out after the files of the LFP were compared to lists of those betting on league games. The low-key announcement saw the toughest penalties imposed being three match suspended suspensions and fines of €1,500.
The players caught were divided into groups depending on the precise nature of their offence.
Players who had bet a maximum of €500 and/or a maximum of 10 bets. These players received a reprimand.
Players who bet over €500 reeived the following penalties:A fine of € 500 for Laurent Heloise Erwan Zelazny, Romain Thomas, Erwan Quintin and Stephen Drouin.
A fine of € 1000 for Florian Martin, Karim Djellabi and Yoan Oswald.
A fine of € 1,500 and for Enzo Reale José Saez.
As Aurélien Capua, Nicolas Di Fraja, Sébastien Grax are no longer licensed to a professional club, no penalty could be imposed against them.
Players who placed negative bets on draws, defeats or no goals scored received the following penalties:
Yoan Cardinale, Quentin Daubin, Jordan Astier, Adrien Valente, Valentin Lavigne, Alexander Raineau, Johan Audel and Jonathan Rivas were fined € 500 and 2 hours community service to be served in their club. If they fail to do the 2 hours service before the end of 2014, without a good excuse, they will be suspended for a single game.
Fabien Barrillon, Adrien Coulomb, and Jonathan Romain Bauchet Millieras have all received a suspended one-game suspension and have to do three separate periods of community service in their club, of two hours each.
Riad Nouri, Dugimont Rémy, Nicolas Pallois, Anthony Le Tallec and Emmanuel Imorou each received a fine of € 1,500 and a suspended three-game suspension.
Quentin Rouger is no longer licensed to a professional club, so no sanction could be imposed on him.
Finally, the Committtee postponed interviews and imposing sentences on Jérôme Rothen, Guillaume Rippert, Jeffrey Baltus, Gaëtan Varenne, Damien Plessis, Benjamin Psalm and Jimmy Juan until Thursday, August 28.
Eyebrows may be raised at the leniency of these sentences, given that the regulation preventing players from betting on games is in place to prevent matches from being fixed.
