August 4 – Luis Suarez will learn later this week whether he can start training with his new club after the Court of Arbitration for Sport confirmed it will hear his appeal against his four-month ban for biting at the World Cup on Friday.
Suarez was handed the suspension, along with a nine-match international ban, by FIFA after he bit Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini. Barcelona have since bought the Uruguay striker from Liverpool and the 27-year-old is due to return to action at the end of October, possibly in the ‘Clasico’ against Real Madrid on the weekend of Oct. 25-26.
The latest appeal has been filed by Suarez, Uruguay and Barcelona whose first game of the new La Liga season is on August 24.
Under the terms of his current suspension, the striker is banned from “any football-related activity” but Barca hope to have him at least training with them sooner rather than later even though his actual playing suspension may still be upheld by the CAS.
