Budapest to host 2024/25 UCL final. UEFA waits for San Siro refurb news before awarding 2025/26

May 23 – Next season’s Champions League final will be staged at Budapest’s 67,215-capacity Puskas Arena, UEFA have decided.

The stadium has already hosted a number of major football events since its opening, including four games at Euro 2020 and – most recently – the 2023 Europa League final between Sevilla and Roma.

From next season, the number of teams in the competition will increase from 32 to 36 as part of a new Champions League format agreed by UEFA in 2022.

The decision on the host venue for the 2027 final has been postponed until September as UEFA seeks information from the Italian Football Federation on refurbishment plans for Milan’s San Siro stadium. AC Milan and Inter Milan announced their intention to build a new stadium in June 2019, for the start of the 2022-23 season but this did not happen.

UEFA met in Dublin on Wednesday to finalise a number of key decisions including a decision to stage the 2026 Women’s Champions League final in Norway at Oslo’s Ullevaal Stadion.

Turning back to the men, Istanbul’s Besiktas Park will host the 2026 Europa League final and the 2027 Europa Conference League final.

Germany will host two finals – Frankfurt will stage the 2027 Europa League final, while the 2026 Europa Conference League final will be held at Leipzig’s RB Arena.

This year’s Champions League final between Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund is being held at Wembley Stadum on June 1, while Barcelona face Lyon in the women’s final at San Mames Stadium in Bilbao this Saturday.
