August 11 – The Asian Football Confederation has handed out two-year bans to two players for doping offenses.
Avchiev Takhir of Kyrgyzstan and Doan Ngoc Hao of Vietnam both tested positive for banned substances.
The former tested positive tested positive for Norandrosterone following Kyrgyzstan’s match against Palestine on May 19 during the AFC Challenge Cup . His ban begins from the date his provisional suspension was imposed, June 7, until June 6, 2016.
Doan Ngoc Hao tested positive for levo-methamphetamine following Vietnam’s match against Iraq on April 30 at the AFC Futsal Championship. He too has been banned from taking part in any football-related activity from May 26.
Positive dugs tests are extremely rare in international football and the two bans cast another dark cloud over the AFC as it tries to improve its image on and off the pitch. The Football Federation of Kyrgyz Republic and the Vietnam Football Federation have both been notified of the decisions and both players can appeal the sanctions.
