June 11 – England may be the bookies’ favourites for Euro 2024 but an analysis by the CIES Football Observatory has Germany and Spain as the teams most likely to win.
France and England are ranked as teams most likely to reach the semi-finals, with Portugal following close behind.
The CIES data looks at squad competitiveness from a number of different data points.
The analysis of squad competitiveness is calculated through an index weighting the minutes played over the last year by footballers selected by the sporting level of their matches.
The data also looks at the aggregated transfer value of squad members using the CIES Football Observatory’s statistical model. England have the highest value squad at €1.69 billion, ahead of France’s squad value of €1.41 billion and Portugal at €1.22 billion.
The CIES data highlighes Jude Bellingham as the most valuable player at the tournament ahead of new Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappe and England teammate Phil Foden.
In terms of age , the values range from 28.8 years for Scotland to 25.8 years for the Czech Republic. Regarding height , the extremes are 186.5 cm for Serbia and 181.6 cm for Spain.
In terms players playing outside their home country, the percentages range from 100% for Denmark and Albania to 8% for England.
