July 1 – Manchester City Women will travel down under this August to take part in the first Perth International Football Cup as part of the club’s preparations for the 2024/25 season – following a gutting end to 2023/24.
Lining up alongside PSG, West Ham and Leicester City the tournament will be played August 21- September 2. Will be the Citizens’ first appearance since losing out on the WSL title on the last day of the season due to goal difference.
Man City will open the tounrament either against West Ham United or Paris Saint Germain at the 61,000-seater Optus Stadium in Perth.
Man City have Australian national team players Mary Fowler and Alanna Kennedy in their squad and will hold an open training session for local fans to engage with their players.
Charlotte O’Neill, Managing Director – Manchester City Women, said: “This is the first time for a number of years that Manchester City Women have embarked on a pre-season tour of this nature and is a clear indicator of global growth and appeal for the club and women’s football.”
The tour is being supported by the Western Australia tourism board. Acting Tourism Minister John Carey, said: “We’re excited to welcome these star Matilda’s players and their talented teammates to Western Australia for this world-class football event, taking place just weeks after the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The event is being staged by sports marketing group TEG.
