With goals hard to come by, Gakpo is bookies’ favourite for Golden Boot

July 5 – Dutch star Cody Gakpo has edged out Jamal Musiala as the bookie’s favourite to take home the Euro 2024 golden boot as the Liverpool man enjoys his best goalscoring form to date.

The 25-year-old, who is on three goals alongside Musiala, has the best odds at 4/1. Netherlands only have to face Türkiye and the winner of England v Switzerland ahead of the final, whilst Musiala’s Germany face in-form Spain and then the winner of France v Portugal.

The Dutchman has scored almost every game for the Netherlands, only blanking in a frustrating 0-0 draw with France in the group stage.

FC Bayern and Germany star Jamal Musiala, who is also on three goals for the tournament, is second the bookies’ second favourite as he has become the unlikely source of goals for Germany as he continues to shimmer on home soil.

With a tough fixture versus Spain taking place on Friday evening, Musiala’s tournament could meet an early end. The Spaniards have looked unstoppable and it will take the very best of what Musiala has to offer to bring a stop to Luis de La Fuente’s side.

The bookies predict Harry Kane to find some form as the tournament rumbles on, with the Englishman at 13/2 to finish as top scorer despite being a goal behind Gakpo and Musiala with two.

He will captain England when they meet Switzerland on Saturday evening – marking the three lions’ sternest challenge yet.

The bookies also confirm you can never write off Kylian Mbappe, who has struggled so far but is still amongst the favourites to take the golden boot. His only goal been via a penalty, as France have struggled to find the net from open play. In fact, of the three goals scored at the tournament, two were own goals by opposition players sandwiching Mbappe’s penalty against Poland.

Still, the Frenchman has proved his is capable of reaching the top of the charts in a single game after his World Cup final hattrick in 2022. At 25-years-old, he is only nine goals away from Olivier Giroud’s 57-goal record for his national team, having played 54 fewer games.
