July 8 – The Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) is to bring in goal-line technology for the first time for the top tier of the efbet League next season.
Fixed cameras will be provided by IMS Productions in a four-year deal signed by the president of the Bulgarian Football Union Georgi Ivanov and the executive director of IMS Productions Gergana Danova.
“At the Boyana National Football Base, a 4-year contract was signed for the use of stationary cameras on the goal-line during First League matches. With the innovation, the Bulgarian Football Union puts equality between the clubs as its main priority, and the new technology will allow accurate and correct decisions to recognize a goal or, accordingly, its cancellation.
“At the same time, the potential for wrong or subjective decisions, which are often the result of the limited field of view and frame rate of traditional broadcast TV cameras, will be reduced,” said a BFU statement.
“As a company engaged in the television realization of Bulgarian football for the last 15 years and actively participating in the introduction of the VAR system in Bulgaria, we are particularly happy that we can be part of the process of its improvement and upgrading. We sincerely thank the President Mr. Ivanov and the entire BFU team for the opportunity,” added Danova,.
The addition of goalline technology will also improve the quality of the VAR system.
“The ability to shoot with more cameras will bring the greater objectivity and equality between clubs that we seek,” said Ivanov.
Two ultra-motion cameras will be strategically installed at each stadium in the efbet League, one focused on each goal line. The camera signals, through the TV provider, will be received directly by the VAR system.
The VAR team, in turn, will have full control over the camera footage, allowing them to review every frame and use the zoom function to assess goal-line situations as well as ambush situations.
Innovations will allow the use of a calibrated ambush line with additional frame angles, and remotely controlled camera focus settings providing optimal images without the need for an operator and physical access to the camera.\
The technology, which will enter for the new season 2024/25 in the efbet League, was used during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
