September 2 – Finding accommodation at affordable prices at World Cups can often be more of a challenge for fans than buying tickets. Russia 2018 may have found a solution with the Snoozebox Football Village that is planned for Saransk.
The Russia 2018 organizing committee has signed an agreement with UK company Snoozebox Holdoing to construct a capsule hotel.
The hotel will have 2,000 2 and 3 Star category rooms and will part of a complex that includes restaurants, relaxation zones, big screens to watch football, concert and sports sites and shops.
Snoozebox hotels are modular and come as self contained units that arrive on flatbed lorries and can be placed on to any terrain, and don’t require mains power, water or sewerage services.
The units are stackable and are quick to build, taking up less space than traditional cabins and other forms of portable accommodation. Rooms can be ready for use within 48 hours of delivery on site.
Each container contains either four double rooms with a double bed, single bunk and an en-suite wet room, or three rooms each with a double bed, two single beds and en-suite wet room. Wifi comes as part of the accommodation package.
Saransk is one of the 11 Russian cities scheduled to host 2018 World Cup matches and will have a new 45,000-seat stadium to hold them in. Saransk is the capital of Mordovia, about 600km east of Moscow and with a population of just under 300,000 is the smallest Russian city hosting in 2018.
An infrastructure budget of $2 billion has been earmarked for the city.
