September 3 – Polish businessman Wieslaw Wlodarski has announced he is aiming to take over Wisla Krakow from its current owner, Boguslaw Cupial. The announcement was made following the signing of a three-year sponsorship deal between Wlodarski’s company, Foodcare, and the Krakow-based football side.
The amount of the potential deal was not disclosed. Wisla currently plays in the Ekstraklasa, the top tier of Poland’s professional football league.
“I have been thinking about it a lot. I’m currently working on a certain project which will generate revenues. When I close the deal, I will make an offer to Boguslaw Cupial. This will happen in the forthcoming months,” Wlodarski told local news site Sport.pl.
“We have become a sponsor of the Football Academy of Wisla Krakow, and the logos of our [beverages], Frugo and 4Move, will appear on the shirts of the youth squad of [Wisla].”
According to Wlodarski, while Russian and Middle Eastern businessmen have shown interest in acquiring the Polish club from Cupial, the club’s current owner told him he wanted to transfer control over Wisla to “a real supporter”.
“[Cupial] has told me that he can only negotiate with a man who is emotionally attached to the club. This is of utmost importance to him, and I have been attending Wisla’s matches since I was seven, and since 2000, I have been one of its sponsors,” Wlodarski said.
