Shelley Kerr

September 8 – A small piece of sporting history was made in Scotland on Saturday when the University of Stirling of the fifth-tier Lowland League beat rivals Edinburgh University 2-1 to hand manager Shelley Kerr her first victory.

On her appointment last month, Kerr, who won 59 Scottish caps, was said to be the first woman manager in British men’s senior football. This makes Saturday’s result something of a landmark for the cause of gender equality in sport.

Over in France, Corinne Diacre, coach of Clermont Foot, the French second division team, is still awaiting her first league win, with the team’s next match against Le Havre on Friday.

Five games into the season, Clermont sit rock bottom with just two points.

Diacre’s side has however beaten both Istres and Chȃteauroux in the French League Cup. They will discover their next opponent in that competition on Wednesday, with a strong chance it will be a top-tier Ligue 1 club.
