August 4 – The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has extended its broadcasting rights contract with Digiturk, part of beIN Media Group, for another three years.
Turkish Super Lig and Lig 1 matches will be broadcast on beIN Sports channels in Turkey as well as into 40 other countries worldwide.
The new football season in Turkey starts on August 9. Matches will air on the Digiturk platform which has been a partner of the league for more than 23 years.
No value was given for the rights fee for the new deal but will be a slight increase on the roughly $300 million being paid under the 2022 two-year deal. That was a big drop from the fee being paid in 2015 which was about $500 million per season and only agreed after a tense and often bitter negotiation.
That fee was radically reduced by beIN in 2022 following unchecked piracy of their broadcasts, and the action of Fenerbahce and its fans who blamed the broadcaster for influencing penalty decisions in matches via its VAR facilities and commentary.
beIN demanded $200 million off the final year of its rights agreement via a rebate. After a tense and often bitter tender process, beIN kept the rights for two seasons from 2022 at around the $300 million mark.
Now the relationship between beIN and the TFF looks to be on more stable ground.
“Winning the tender held by the TFF last March by submitting the highest bid and fulfilling the conditions, beIN Sports will continue to be the broadcaster of Trendyol Super League and Trendyol 1st League for the next three years,” said a TFF statement.
“Digiturk has been the largest investor in Turkish football with beIN Sports for more than 23 years. Thanks to beIN Sports’ international media power, Turkish football meets football fans in more than 100 locations worldwide. As part of the agreement, domestic and international matches of the Trendyol Super League and Trendyol 1st League will be broadcast all over the world with beIN Sports until the end of the 2026-27 season.”
“We are delighted to extend our partnership with TFF for another three years as the official broadcaster of Trendyol Super Lig and Trendyol 1st Lig in Turkey and many other locations worldwide. We will continue to provide the highest quality content to sports enthusiasts and continue our efforts to strengthen the position of Turkish football in the global market. We have set standards in the sector by making major investments in Turkish football,” said Yousef Al-Obaidly, beIN Media Group and Digiturk CEO.
We are proud to be the largest and longest-standing investor in Turkish football, broadcasting Trendyol Super League for 23 years. We will continue to provide innovative and high-quality broadcasts using the latest technology and advanced platforms to give Turkish fans the best experience while supporting their teams. Trendyol Super League and Trendyol 1st League add to other premium rights in our sports and entertainment portfolio,” he added.
