China sends two more football execs to jail for corruption

August 20 – China’s crackdown on corrupt football officials has intensified with yet more jail sentences meted out.

Twenty-four hours after Li Yuyi, former vice president of the Chinese Football Association, was sentenced to 11 years and fined 1 million yuan ($139,579.03) along with Fu Xiang, formerly executive vice president and secretary-general of the Wuhan Football Association, two more officials have suffered similar fates.

The former director of the competition department at the Chinese Football Association, Huang Song (pictured), has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for taking bribes and fined 600,000 yuan ($84,000).

And in another court ruling, a former executive committee member of the Chinese FA, Gu Jianming, who was also a former chairman and secretary-general of the Chengdu Football Association, was given six years.

Huang came under investigation in March 2023 and his trial was held publicly in March.
