August 21 – AFC Bournemouth have announced a first-of-its-kind new partnership with the WWE 2K video game series as the Premier League regulars take an untrodden step into the virtual world of wrestling.
The collaboration will see the Cherries be the first Premier League club to tag team with the franchise, and will look to sprout several digital campaigns aiming to entertain fans whilst showcasing WWE 2K24, with Bournemouth content set to appear in-game in the coming weeks.
Rob Mitchell, Commercial Director at Bournemouth said: “Partnering with WWE 2K is a fantastic opportunity for us to engage with our supporters in a new and innovative way. This collaboration will combine the thrill of WWE 2K’s gameplay, with the dynamic world of Premier League football.”
Released in March 2024, WWE 2K24 sold more than 10,000 copies in its first week, generating almost $1million in the process. Almost six months on from its initial release with its player base slowly dropping, the partnership aims to breathe new life into the game and attract a new portion of fans to pick up the controller.
Bryce Yang, Senior Director of Franchise and Partnerships Strategy, Sports at 2K also commented: “WWE 2K and AFC Bournemouth make a formidable tag team in the ring and on the pitch. We’re thrilled to partner with the Cherries and wish them great success this season. Together, anything is possible!”
