September 22 – UEFA has confirmed that financial fair play fines imposed on clubs will be redistributed among teams who managed to balance their books.
Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and Zenit St. Petersburg were among nine clubs sanctioned in the first tranche of penalties and in a statement UEFA confirmed: “All amounts will be entirely redistributed to other clubs participating in the UEFA club competitions, since these clubs have been impacted by the non-compliance with FFP rules.”
The European Club Association welcomed the move which it had proposed. “This distribution concept is a great sign of solidarity between big and small clubs,” ECA chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said.
The €24.134 million in fines will be distributed among all clubs that participated in UEFA’s club competitions last season. The 73 Champions League and Europa League Group Stage participants will receive 80% of the money in equal shares -€264,482 per club. The remaining 20% will be distributed among 155 clubs eliminated during the qualifying rounds, each club receiving €31,140.
