September 18 – The AFC Medical Committee has approved Saudi Arabia’s Move Comprehensive Sports Medicine Centre as the latest AFC Medical Centre of Excellence at its third meeting held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Move Comprehensive Sports Medicine Centre is the first facility to achieve this recognition in Saudi Arabia the 13thAFC-recognised medical centres in Asia.
AFC Medical Committee Chairperson Dato’ Dr Gurcharan Singh, said: “The AFC Medical Centres and Clinics of Excellence continue to play an integral role in strengthening our ability to provide world-class care and medical services to our players across the Continent.
“The expansion of our centres not only improves the accessibility and quality of care for our players but also serves as a conduit to embark on more breakthrough and collaborative research opportunities, which ultimately benefits our footballers in their pursuit to achieve success on the world stage, as underlined in the AFC’s Vision and Mission.
Since its launch in 2018, the football-specific medicine accreditation programme recognises medical institutions for their leadership in clinical, research and education expertise, injury-prevention measures as well as experience in managing injuries in elite-level football.
The AFC Medical Committee also approved the new Head Concussion and Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) Prevention and Management requirements for Team Doctors at its Kuala Lumpur meeting as well as receiving updates on sports science and medicine related activities since the last meeting.
The 8th AFC Medical Conference, which will be launched officially at the AFC House on September 18, 2024, before returning to Kuala Lumpur in July 2025.
