October 7 – Aspire Academy and sports conference organiser Leaders have joined to launch a new business of sports awards event aimed at recognising sports excellence under the age of 40.
The announcement was made at the Aspire Global Summit in Paris. A dinner and formal launch of the awards will be made during the Leaders conference that begins this Wednesday in London – the dinner will be held at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in London’s West End.
Titled Leaders Under 40, the awards will be in six categories: Sales/commercial; Marketing and communications; digital/technology; media/broadcast; brands/sponsorship; leaders in strategy/governance.
A further award will be given to one “inspiring” sports business figure for their contribution to sport.
James Worrall, CEO of Leaders, said: “We are seeing a new generation of business leaders in sport but there was no way of showcasing these people or their achievements.”
“We will be looking to recognise young professionals who are really making a difference whether they are in Europe, Asia or the Americas,” said Ivan Bravo (pictured), Director General of the Aspire Academy. “The awards fit with our Inspire today, Inspire tomorrow philosophy. At Aspire we develop worldwide athletes who have the drive, work ethic and skills to lead. The sports business requires the same kinds of attributes.”
The winners will be chosen by a judging panel that currently numbers about 15 but is expected to number 25-30 of the leading names in sport worldwide.
“If I was a young business person I would want to get my name and achievements in front of these people at the top table,” said Worrall.
