October 15 – Jonas Eidevall has stepped down as head coach of Arsenal Women after managing just one victory in four Women’s Super League matches, worsened by a 5-2 thrashing against Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League fixture.
The Swede, who had been in charge since 2021 and secured two League Cup titles, has come under increased pressure following a string of disappointing results.
The club’s recent 0-0 draw at home to Everton further added to the scrutiny, as Arsenal’s performances have struggled to meet expectations under his management in recent weeks.
Fan frustration was evident, with one supporter bringing a mock P45 to Arsenal’s 2-1 loss to Chelsea at the Emirates, while ‘Jonas Out’ graffiti was also spotted near the stadium.
“We can confirm that Jonas Eidevall has resigned from his position as head coach of our women’s first team and leaves us with immediate effect,” Arsenal said.
Arsenal’s sporting director, Edu, added: “We thank Jonas for his commitment to the club and achievements here since joining us in 2021. We have great respect for the dedication and commitment he showed to our women’s first team and recognise the role he has played in the growth and development of Arsenal Women. We all wish him the very best for the future.
“Our focus will now turn to the process of appointing a new head coach, and in the meantime, supporting Renée (Slegers), as she takes interim charge of the team starting with two important fixtures this week.”
The interim coach will be at the helm for at least Arsenal’s next two games, including Wednesday’s UWCL clash with Valerenga followed by an away trip across London to face West Ham in the Super League.
