October 9 – Swiss club FC Schaffhausen has unveiled the design of its planned CHF 52 million (€43 million) new stadium. Under the plan, the stadium will be built on a recently-acquired 33,000 square metre site. The construction project will be jointly implemented by Aniello Fontana, the club’s chief executive, and local real estate developer Gallus Immobilien AG.
As part of the deal, a shopping centre will be located within the facility.
The stadium in Schaffhausen will have a capacity of 8,200. This is a small increase on the side’s current stadium, Stade Breite, which has a capacity of 7,300.
The new sports facility is scheduled to open in April 2016. Construction works are expected to begin this month.
Cluib sponsor Lipo has taken naming rights for the stadium which will be called Lipo Park. The Swiss furniture store brand Lipo operates 22 outlets in the Swiss market. In addition to Lipo, other tenants of the designed shopping centre are to include retail store chain Lidl.
Set up in 1896, the Swiss club currently plays in the second tier of Switzerland’s professional football league, the Challenge League.
