Saudi real estate giant starts first stage of tender process for ‘National Guard Stadium’ in Riyadh

November 6 – Saudi giga-project developer ROSHN has opened prequalification for a contract to build a new stadium adjacent to the National Guard facilities in southwest Riyadh as Saudi looks to gear up preparations for the 2034 World Cup, with their status as hosts all but announced.

The Italian Trade & Investment Agency reported that the prequalification was issued last month, with an October 22 deadline for submissions.

The anticipated ‘National Guard Stadium’ will cover more than 450,000 square metres, with a 46,000-spectator capacity, aligning with the country’s Vision 2030 infrastructure goals.

ROSHN, founded in 2020 and financed by the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF), will continue to play a role in developing infrastructure, helping to support Saudi’s Vision 2030 goal of establishing the kingdom as a global sports destination.

Plans show that the stadium will integrate advanced sustainable features like solar panels, alongside systems to optimise water and energy management. The facility will reportedly include auxiliary spaces, training academy offices, two hotels, and retail and dining outlets as Saudi gears up to host the 2034 World Cup.

Set to host 32 matches during the 2034 FIFA World Cup, the stadium is part of Saudi Arabia’s broader plan, which includes 11 new stadiums nationwide, with eight in Riyadh and others in Jeddah, Al-Khobar, Abha, and Neom. In addition, the bid includes 134 training sites across 15 cities, supporting regional engagement in World Cup festivities.

Saudi Arabia launched its World Cup bid last year and was effectively confirmed as the 2034 host after Australia withdrew. The official rubberstamping of their hosting by FIFA announcement is expected on December 11 at an online special congress of FIFA’s member nations.
