Get Trained, Save Lives campaign trains more than 176,000 people in CPR

November 8 – More than 176,000 people across Europe have been trained in CPR since UEFA launched their ‘Get trained, save lives’ campaign with the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) in November 2023.

Targeting sudden cardiac arrest, the third leading cause of death in Europe, the campaign leverages the popularity of football to raise awareness and teach CPR skills to fans, players, volunteers, and staff.

At the recent #RESUS24 congress in Athens, UEFA presented the campaign’s impact to date. Alongside the extensive training efforts, the campaign generated 4 billion impressions across platforms, including a television ad that reached a cumulative 1.4 billion viewers, emphasising the importance of CPR across Europe.

Using a multi-platform approach, the campaign reached football communities in 171 countries through both in-person and online methods.

An interactive course, featuring players past and present such as Ruud Gullit, Erling Haaland, and Thierry Henry, trained 78,000 participants, while a shorter Instagram-based course engaged 49,000.

During EURO 2024, more than 40,000 fans participated in hands-on CPR training in fan zones, collectively performing more than 4 million heart compressions.

UEFA also reached elite football participants, with 9,100 professionals, including players and staff, receiving CPR training led by ERC-certified instructors at major events such as the UEFA Nations League and Under-21 EURO finals.

UEFA took the opportunity to reveal plans to further spotlight the ‘Get Trained, Save Lives’ campaign at club competition matches in December, encouraging fans to take the CPR course available at get-trained.com. With ongoing support from European professional clubs, the organisation says it is committed to expanding CPR training across the football community for years to come.
