October 24 – Romanian government authorities have unveiled the design of a planned stadium for top tier football club CS Universitatea Craiova.
Romania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Regional Development and Administration Liviu Dragnea said the project is to be 90% financed by the state with a further 10% of the funds to be provided by the municipal authorities of Craiova.
“The investment will be worth a total of €55 million,” Dragnea said at a press conference accompanying the launch of the project.
Located on a site of about 77,000 square metres, the new sports facility is to replace the Ion Oblemenco stadium in Craiova. Under the plan, the designed facility will be fitted with a capacity of 30,854 seats, of which 222 are to be earmarked for disabled spectators. This would represent an increase from the current seating capacity of 25,252.
In addition to this, a parking close to the stadium will have space for 1,123 cars, and a further 74 spaces for buses and special vehicles.
Following the planned awarding of the deal for construction works, the construction is to be completed within a period of 17 months.
Based in Craiova, in Romania’s south, CS Universitatea Craiova currently competes in the Liga I, the top tier of the country’s professional football league.
