December 12 – UEFA has fined the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) €173,000, partially closed the stands for the next two home matches, and banned the sale of tickets to fans for the next two away matches after a number of offenses during games against Switzerland and Denmark in the Nations League last month.
On November 15, Serbia played Switzerland in Zurich in the fifth round of Group A4 of the Nations League. The UEFA ruling fines the FSS €119,750 after Serbian fans lit flares, threw objects on to the pitch, caused damage to the stadium in Zurich, as well as for discriminatory messages that “are inappropriate for a sporting event”.
UEFA has also banned the FSS from selling tickets to its fans for the next two away matches due to the “racist and discriminatory behaviour” of their fans.
UEFA has also warned the FSS and coach Dragan Stojković that they are responsible for the delay in the match in Zurich.
Serbia’s match in the sixth round of Group A4 against Denmark was played on November 18 in Leskovac and ended 0-0.
UEFA fined the FSS a total of €53,250 for fans again lighting flares, entering the pitch, and “discriminatory behavior”.
UEFA said this behavior by Serbian fans has triggered implementation of a previously suspended sentence. Serbia will therefore have to reduce the stadium capacity by 4,000 seats in its next match as host, and by 8,000 in its second.
