January 15 – Citing ‘personal reasons’, Englishman Steve Bould has departed his managerial role at Belgium’s Lommel SK, one of the City Football Group clubs.
Assistant manager Ryan Garry will take over as interim coach at the Soevereinstadion.
Bould arrived in Limburg in the summer of 2022 and last season he almost steered Lommel back to the top flight, a feat the club have failed to achieve in more than 20 years.
“Steve has had a significant impact on Lommel SK,” said sporting director James McCarron. “We thank him for his dedication, expertise, and vision. We part ways on the best of terms and with the utmost respect. Our focus now shifts to the next chapter in the club’s rich history, and we have a plan in place to ensure a smooth transition.”
A two-time England international, Bould played 287 times for Arsenal where he later built his coaching career at both the academy and with the U-23 team. In 2012, he succeeded Pat Rice as assistant manager following his retirement.
“I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve achieved together over the past two and a half years,” said Bould. “The players, staff of Lommel SK, and the personnel from both the club and the City Football Group have been fantastic, and I will always cherish my time at this wonderful club.”
“Although I am leaving the club, I will always carry the beautiful memories of the wonderful moments we’ve shared. I wish the club all the best for the future and am returning to England for personal reasons.”
The City Football Group acquired Lommel in 2020, but the club have failed to gain promotion to the top flight. They are currently eighth in the second-division table.
