Flamengo and Fluminense, who run Rio de Janeiro’s famous Maracana stadium, said 11 hospitality boxes will be auctioned with  bids expected to range from R$585,000 to R$6.1 million ($98,000 to $1 million). The skyboxes entitle buyers to attend other matches, including those of the national team, as well as concerts at the venue.

Flamengo and Fluminense run daily operations at the Maracanã through the Fla-Flu consortium’s special purpose company (SPE) – called Fla-Flu Serviços S.A, established in September 2024. Flamengo has a 65% stake in Fla-Flu Serviços, Fluminense retains the remaining 35%. Revenues, profits and losses maintain that division, but each club has operational and financial control of its matches.

The Maracana remains one of the world’s most iconic stadiums and was renovated for the 2014 World Cup. It was built for the 1950 World Cup when it overtook Hampden Park as the biggest stadium in the world. Over the years, the capacity was scaled down to just 72,000.
