February 26 – English football’s main supporters group has written to the Premier League calling for a division-wide ticket freeze next season.
Brentford and Liverpool recently committed to freeze prices, while there have been fan protests at Manchester United, Tottenham and Manchester City in recent weeks. City and Liverpool fans joined together before Sunday’s Premier League match at Etihad Stadium to unveil a banner protesting against the rise in ticket prices.
The Football Supporters’ Association’s stance is part of its ‘Stop Exploiting Loyalty’ campaign, arguing the issue has reached a “critical juncture”.
“The FSA’s #StopExploitingLoyalty campaign pulls all of those together with a single focus which calls for price freezes, an end to the attack on concessions and increased supporter engagement,” said a statement.
As well as a price freeze, the FSA said it wants protection of all concessions for pensioners which a handful of clubs are scandalously reducing despite the fact these fans have arguably spent more on tickets than anyone else over the years.
