December 4 – Scottish champions Celtic are prepared to go all the way to the Court of Arbitration for Sport in their appeal against Bulgarian Aleksandar Tonev’s racism charge.
The on-loan Aston Villa winger was handed a seven-match ban by the Scottish football association after being found guilty of racially abusing an Aberdeen player Shay Logan.
Tonev’s initial appeal was being heard today but manager Ronny Delia said when asked if the case could go all the way to the CAS: “We’ll see, we will have to do everything in our power to get this away from Alex, we believe him.
“It’s been word against word and they are thinking the other guy is telling the truth and Tonev is lying, and for me that’s not how a court should be, for me it should be real proof.
“This is a very serious accusation and you have to absolutely know you’re right. If it’s still going to go on and there’s no proof we will have to do everything we can to help Alex. We don’t believe Aleksandar is a racist.”
