Tuchel returns Rashford and Henderson to England squad for 2026 qualifiers

March 14 – The international careers of Marcus Rashford and Jordan Henderson have been suddenly revived after both were included in new England coach Thomas Tuchel’s first squad.

The Aston Villa forward and Ajax midfielder were brought back into the fold by Tuchel for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia.

Rashford’s last appearance for England came in March last year in a friendly against Brazil while former Liverpool strongman Henderson, 34, last played for England in November 2023.

Among those left out were Villa forward Ollie Watkins, who picked up a knock in their win over Club Brugge on Wednesday, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will also miss Liverpool’s League Cup final against Newcastle United on Sunday with injury.

Rashford, 27, became persona non grata at Manchester United after Ruben Amorim took over as manager and joined Villa on loan in January. He has won 60 England caps and scored eight goals, but his international prospects faded under previous England manager Gareth Southgate after a dip in form.

Newcastle defender Dan Burn and Arsenal midfielder Myles Lewis-Skelly could win their first caps after receiving their first England call-ups

The 18-year-old academy product Lewis-Skelly has impressed in his breakthrough season at Arsenal while 32-year-old Burn has starred in defence for his club.

England begin their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign at Wembley against Albania on Friday next week and play Latvia on March 24.
