December 17 – Hosts USA, Costa Rica and Mexico have all been seeded for the three group stage of the 2015 Gold Cup which will be played across 13 North American cities, including crossing into Canada for the first time.
The 12 teams in CONCACAF’s marquee championship will play group and knockout rounds in the 13 cities of Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, New York, Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Toronto from July 7-26.
Eleven of the cities have hosted Gold Cup matches before. Toronto in Canada enters the hosting arena for the first time. The venues being used are a mix of soccer-specific and NFL stadiums.
Group games will be played as double headers as the championship tours the country. The venues for the semi-finals and final have yet to be announced.
“We would like to thank all cities and venues across the United States – and in fact North America as a whole – for their continued interest in our Confederation’s marque event, the Gold Cup…The explosive growth of the game across CONCACAF has been on display recently on the world’s stage, and we now look forward to bringing this success home to our regional fans during our premier tournament,” said CONCACAF President Jeffrey Webb.
Defending champions the US will open the tournament in Dallas’ Toyota Stadium before moving on to Boston and Kansas City for their second and third group games. Toronto will host the final round of Group B games at the BMO Field which has been cleared for use by the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO), as the venue is also being used for the Toronto 2015 Pan American games.
