April 24 – Following a 3-0 victory over rivals Al Arabi, Neom SC have clinched promotion to the Saudi Pro League – the professional top-flight of football in the country.
An Ahmed Abdo brace and a goal from Olympique Lyonnais loanee Said Benrahma secured Neom SC’s berth in next season’s top tier.
The promotion marks the rapid rise of a club that lingered for years in the lower tiers of Saudi football before a rebrand under the banner of Neom, the prestige project in the western region of Saudi Arabia.
It’s the second consecutive year that Neom SC have gained promotion having risen from the third-tier last season.
In a statement, Neom SC chairman Meshari Al-Motairi said: “Today marks the beginning of a new phase of hard work as we prepare for the upcoming Roshn Saudi League season – with all its challenges and responsibilities.
“We remain committed to continuous development and to working together as one team toward greater achievements.”
Led by Brazilian manager Péricles Chamusca, Neom dominated the season even after losing striker Romarinho in the winter.
The club attracted Benrahma on loan from Lyon, a testimony to Neom SC’s spending power. In the long run, Neom SC want to establish themself as one of the marquee names in the Saudi Pro League, challenging the popular clubs in both Riyadh and Jeddah.
Recently, Neom SC’s women’s team also won promotion to the highest level, marking the club’s commitment to develop across the board.
