Celtic superfan nominated for Scottish Goal of the Month

Jay Beatty and Samoras

February 12 – Scotland could see an unlikely winner of January’s Goal of the Month competition, with a young Celtic fan with Down’s Syndrome among the nominees.

A few weeks ago, Celtic and Hamilton joined forces to give 11-year-old Jay Beatty the Christmas present of a lifetime by treating him to a VIP day at New Douglas Park.

This included allowing the Bhoys superfan to come on the pitch at half-time to score a goal to rapturous applause from both sets as fans.

Hamilton, who lost the game 2-0, went as far as to include Jay’s strike in the final score, announcing a 3-0 Celtic victory on Twitter shortly afterwards.

If that wasn’t enough, the goal has now been included as part of the SPL’s Goal of the Month competition, with fans able to register a vote on the league’s YouTube channel.

Jay first hit the spotlight in last year, when former striker Georgio Samaras plucked the youngster from the Parkhead crowd to join Celtic’s lap of honour after winning the league.

There was even a campaign to fly him out to Brazil to join his new friend at the World Cup, but Jay and his parents were eventually forced to decline an invitation from the Greek FA because they were on a family holiday in the United States.

You can watch the official Goal of the Month shortlist video below, with Jay’s strike listed as Goal J. A quick look at the comments section will tell you that the youngster’s probably already got this one sewn up!
