March 4 – Traffic Sports has signed a new sponsor for the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. Maxxis joins the roster as Official Tire Sponsor for the competition which is now into its quarter final stages.
No amount for the deal has been released though it is expected to turn into a long-term commitment with the current competition now entering its final rounds and the 2015/16 competition scheduled for August kick-off.
CONCACAF General Secretary Enrique Sanz said: “We are excited to welcome Maxxis as an official sponsor of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League. As the top tournament for club teams in the region, the Champions League has proved its world class level.”
Maxxis has long recognised the promotional power of football in the region having previously been a sponsor of CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying. The new deal sees Maxxis acquire rights to use of Champions League marks, promotional rights, activation rights at stadia throughout the region, televised signage, and branding in official tournament media and materials.
Maxxis is one of the world’s top 10 tyre brands, operating in 180 countries on four continents, employing more than 30,000 people.
Paul Huang, director of the Maxxis Latin American Division said: “We understand that this is the perfect opportunity in the sport scenario and for soccer fans to know our commitment to provide 100 percent quality, 100 percent service and 100 percent trust.”
It is perhaps appropriate that an agency named Traffic should sign a tyre brand as a major sponsor. Aaron Davidson, president of Traffic Sports, echoed the value of the opportunity and the sponsorship fit: “Maxxis has been involved in soccer in the Americas for many years… it’s very fitting that one of the true champions of soccer in our region is truly becoming the tire of champions, as the official tire of our Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League.”
