Man Utd top Twitter table for third week, Chelsea move up to second

March 6 – For the third week running Manchester United have topped the Insideworldfootball Premier League Twitter ranking putting on more than 43,000 new followers. Chelsea, who were third in the table last week, showed (perhaps depressingly) that fans behaving badly (racism and sexism incidents) do not effect popularity when it comes to putting on followers, but a League Cup win does. Chelsea put on 5,000 fewer fans than Man Utd, but 2,000 more than overall Twitter table topper Arsenal.

In terms of percentages the lower teams generally put on proportionally higher numbers of followers but still a long way off the volume of the top five clubs. The gaps are only growing bigger and Burnley are still rooted at the bottom of the table.

In terms of number of tweets made over the week West Ham had a huge jump to the top of the table from 9th the previous week, closely followed by Spurs who moved up 5 places.

Man Utd were slightly more energized this week with more tweets made, but still occupied a mid-table spot.

Burnley, sadly, felt they didn’t have as much as their rivals to Tweet about and had the fewest tweets of the week. They occupy bottom spot in all four tables.
