March 16 – Serie A has extended its long-running sponsorship with Telecom Italia. The Italian top tier will partner with the company, through its mobile phone brand TIM, until 2018.
The deal extends to all the competitions organised by the Italian league, which include Serie A, TIM Cup, TIM Super Cup, as well as Primavera TIM championship.
Maurizio Beretta, the president of Serie A, highlighted the length of the league’s association with Telecom Italia, which dates back to 1998, making it the longest partnership of this kind in Italian football.
“The continuation of our collaboration with our multi-year partner…shows the similarities and common goals between us and Telecom Italy,” Beretta said. “We are celebrating the further extension of this relationship, which has major value to both parties, and in 2018, we will reach the milestone of 20 years of partnership.”
The amount of the latest deal was not disclosed by the parties.
Telecom Italy is the largest player in the country’s telecommunications market. Last year, the group posted revenues of about €21.57 billion, and has a workforce of more than 66,000 people.
