March 26 – Players at Bulgaria’s Lokomotiv Plovdiv boycotted training for a second day in protest against wages. The club recently changed ownership from businessman Konstantin Dinev to supporters’ association Future for Lokomotiv.
Yesterday the players failed to take part in either of the two scheduled sessions and today there was a meeting between players and the management. The dire financial state of the club was discussed, but the two sides failed to reach an understanding and the players decided to continue their boycott.
“I can not tell you what will be the outcome. The players have not been paid in the past two months. Currently we just do not have any money. Last year there were periods in which players were not receiving money for six months, but then nobody boycotts. The players have the right to want what they have earned,” said Board member of Lokomotiv Plovdiv Velin Terziev.
Saturday friendly match between Lokomotiv Plovdiv and Serbia’s Napredak Krusevac looks unlikely to go ahead.
